CL in Cartagena lighting research and pilot installation

CL participated in a project in the Getsemani district of Cartagena, Colombia: street research and pilot installation of a new lantern design in Calle Tripita y Media (9-16 July 2016). This was the culmination (so far!) of 2 years of collaboration between CL, Arup lighting group and Leni Schwendinger, Night-time Design, Despacio and our always fantastic sponsors, iGuzzini. The aim of the whole enterprise has been to develop an approach to nighttime design that is thoroughly grounded in both socio-spatial research and commmunity engagement: we’ve had two stints of ethnographic-based research, a series of stakeholder workshops, a lantern design that both responds to the research and can be customised by residents to localise it – and now a public pilot installation.
